The girls are sick, and so am I

Sunday, February 24, 2008

I've been having a nagging sore throat for the last couple of days. I was lazy to go to the doctor's despite it being paid for by the company plus the fact that I really should be a healthy mother to take care of my little boy. Instead, I got Ray to buy me some papaya enzymes which are very effective for sore throats. I'm supposed to take it 3 times a day but after the first dose, my throat was just fine! Now I'm left with some irritating itching cough and the sniffs. :(

My cats are sick too :( This upsets me more than me being sick. I first noticed Prue was very much inactive compared to her usual self and she wasn't eating. She felt warm so I knew immediately that she was running a fever. Soon, Phoebe, Prue's daughter, was also running a fever. I brought both of them to the vet. Where I failed was thinking that Piper was alright. It was only when I returned from the vet that I found Piper to be inactive and warm too! :(

It's really hard trying to get them to take their medication. The girls are hardly sick, and so was never really fed pills or other forms of medicine. We had to crush the pills and mix it into their food. But even the delicious wet cat food didn't entice them enough. I guess they don't have much appetite, just like us when we are sick.

Anyway, however much medicine that manages its way in, I hope they work to battle the virus in their bodies quickly. I really want them to get well soon. I miss them jumping up and down and meowing me like crazy :(

"Oops!" Moment

My colleague is given a laptop instead of a desktop to work on. She's been using it for a little more than a year now. She has always been using the laptop with the adaptor plugged into it. Someone then told her that it's not good for the lifespan of the laptop battery because you need to use and drain the power instead of perpetually charging it up.

So she unplugged the adaptor and attempted to use the battery to run the notebook. But it kept switching off on its own each time she did so. Clearly something's wrong and so she called for help with the IT guys.

Today the guy showed up to take a look at the problem. You know what he found out? The battery was not even attached to the notebook!! It's still nicely wrapped in its package and kept in the laptop bag for as long as she's had the notebook! We all had a good laugh for a couple of minutes. How could she not know that the battery was never attached all this while?

Life is pretty amusing huh?

Books to go

Saturday, February 16, 2008

I've been talking about "less is more" and I've been trying to practise it. Before the new year, I cleaned up my wardrobe and cleared out three bags of clothes, some bags and shoes to be given away. I'm not planning to replace them with new ones. I figured I have more than enough so I'll just live with what I have. (Let's see if this REALLY works! Sometimes my willpower can be next to nothing when I see some great bargains!)

The next thing I'm planning to get rid of are my books. I'm a huge fan of books. Have been since my school days. I've been collecting so many that my bookshelves can't accommodate any more.

Now I think it's time for me to let them go. It's no point keeping them because I know I won't have the time to re-read them. I might find time to read new books though!

Anyway, before I donate them, if anyone of you are an avid reader, you can always take them off me. I read a lot of crime books by various authors, I have quite a few Sydney Sheldons, Chicken Soup series, Paulo Coelho (I'm keeping The Alchemist though), some in the romance department by Nicholas Sparks and Judith Mcnaught and a whole lot more. Drop me a message here or email me if you are interested.

Chinese New Year & Valentine Fun

My company is doing a competition on Monday for best dressed and best decorated office. The theme is a mix of Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day. We aren't a bunch of creative people so we took whatever ideas that people threw at us. On Friday afternoon, we all sat down to learn a little origami and we started what seemed like a production line of a factory!

I saw some other department's decorations and it looks really festive and nice. Ours don't seem as fancy but could less be more?

No worries to bad credit

With the subprime mortgage crisis going on now, things aren't looking that great for many people and companies. Recently I read that the crisis has gone beyond just the subprime mortgage, it has spread to other types of loans too. It really isn't looking too good.

However, if you are one who happen to have bad credit to your name, it's not the end of the world if you need a loan. Usually if you are caught in this situation, you are close to impossible in getting any loans in such bad market condition.

But there's a service now that offers bad credit loans so this is your chance! You no longer need to take on the first bad credit loan that comes your way. You have a choice to choose amongst several others.

This service compiles all the available loans so that you don't need to do the research. So whether you need a credit card or a home loan, just check out the Bad Credit Offers' website and see what good deals you can find!

Another Valentine coming up...

Wednesday, February 13, 2008

Tomorrow is "lovebirds" day. Well, a very commercialised lovebirds day! We don't quite believe in spending too much on a valentine menu and waiting for hours before we get served at dinner. We've experienced it some years back at Le Bouchon French Restaurant and that was our last time going for a commercialised valentine dinner.

Anyway, this post isn't about what we're doing for Valentine's...I got distracted!

I just want to share one of my favourite poems like I did 2 years ago here.

This one is by the famous Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, --- I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Eternity needs a new look

With the new year comes the new look...well not on me physically but at least for my blog :) It's been ages since I touched my template. What better time than the new year to start something new and fresh here.

It's not a fanciful one but this year I'm going simple. I believe less is more.

If anyone sees this template funny on their screen, please drop me a note to let me know okay? I was toying around with it and I'm not sure if it works well with all computers' resolutions.

Anyway, I hope everyone has had a good break during the Chinese New Year. Anyone won lots at the gaming table?

No more junk mails & offers

Do you get lots of junk mails and even free credit cards sent to you? I know of many friends who receive them and they feel rather irritated because somewhere, somehow, someone has breached their privacy. I can understand how frustrating it is to be receiving tonnes of things that you didn't ask for and which don't interest us at all.

If you share the same sentiments, the good news is that there is a way to prevent yourself from being spammed with such mails and receiving products that you don't want. Have you heard of a service called Life Lock? This service insures against identity thefts. Actually, LifeLock provides protection in more ways than one.

I don't know if this is a newbie in the market but I've not come across such a service before. Well, at least not in this country. Anyway, if you are curious to know more, visit LifeLock.com and check out the benefits for yourself. There is a promotion going on as well. If you sign up, you get an immediate savings. If you are unsure, you can always go for the 30 day free trial too.

Only the lucky ones don't get stretch marks

Tuesday, February 05, 2008

Pregnancy really changes a woman's body. Having gone through it myself, I can say for certain women are terrified by the idea of gaining weight during pregnancy. The other big bodily change that may come with pregnancy is the appearance of stretch marks on the tummy. It's really an awful sight and the worse news is that it's really hard to get rid of them.

It's really unfortunate that I've got them and I find that the stretch mark cream I've been using for months now hasn't quite shown much results. Thankfully, my cousin who was also pregnant at the same time as me gave me a really useful tip recently. She told me to visit a website that explains all about stretch marks. If you want to learn how to prevent stretch marks from forming, you should go read this site too. It tells you what not to look out for and what actually works. There's this revitol stretch mark cream that has been proven to work. If only I read this earlier, I could've saved myself some time as well as money!

My cousin is now using the cream. Unfortunately it's too soon to see the resuls because she has just started. I don't think I'll wait to see it, I'll just go get one for myself too.

Last minute worker

Are you a last minute worker? I am, and it all began since college days. I would always leave my assignments right up to the eleventh hour before I get started on them. Some of my friends are like that too but they worked smarter than me. They hired some custom writing service that is able to produce some good work for them in a matter of hours! Before they told me about this, I never knew there were such essay for sale services. Otherwise, I too would work smart and just buy essays because I'm not good at writing.

Where better than Paris for a romantic Valentine?

Valentine's Day is soon approaching. Have you any great plans? How does spending Valentine's Day in Paris sound to you? Romantic, huh? It would indeed be a dream of mine to be fulfilled. Imagine spending some alone time with your better half in some nice Paris bed and breakfast. If you don't fancy bed and breakfast as your choice of accommodation, there are always some very nice Hotels in Paris to choose from too. Try typing some key words like Hotel Paris on the search engines and you should see some good hotels showing up.

New office furniture for the new year?

It's common that some households change their furniture once in a few years just before the Chinese New Year. It's supposed to be a symbolic thing to get rid of old stuff and replacing them with new ones. But have you heard of offices that do that in the hope of bringing in better fortune? I have. It's a friend's company.

His boss has ordered some new office furniture and had them fixed up and all ready for the Chinese New Year. I marvelled at that gesture because he surely had to spend a lot. But according to my friend, they were quite reasonably priced and that's why his boss didn't mind purchasing so many sets of office desks and chairs.

And for the price he paid for them, these desks are of top notch quality. They come in many different designs in terms of sizes and colours. What I was impressed with is that they come with an 8-year guarantee too! I'm not sure if you have heard of such guarantee for office furniture but I certainly have not.

Maybe it's about time to suggest to my boss to buy us all some new furniture. Who knows, we could be doing more business than ever with just a small change!
