During lunch hour we went to the foodcourt (after a fortune on lunch yesterday, we need to save by going for cheaper lunches). I went to a stall selling nasi campur. After picking the dishes and paid for it, I ransacked a small basket on the counter for utensils. The basket was full of forks, and only 1 spoon. I fished it out and found some stains on it. Looks like a piece of small chilli.
I asked the lady at the stall for more spoons (obviously I'm not using that not-so-clean one). She looked at me but didn't budge. I showed her the one and only spoon in that basket and pointed to her the chilli still stuck on the spoon. This time she looked a bit embarrassed, and went to the back to get more spoons.
She came out empty handed. She picked up THAT spoon and disappeared back in the kitchen again. Seconds later she emerged with a wet spoon and handed it to me. It was the SAME spoon still with that chilli stuck on it! I gave it back to her and said it's still there!! She took it back and this time disappeared again for a slightly longer time.
She must have spent more time scrubbing it a bit more. By then, a group of people were gathered at the stall buying their lunch. If that spoon was the one and only left, what will the rest of her customers eat with? Maybe they expect all customers to eat with fingers. But if so, why provide so many forks??
