The Dress

Warning: Guys, this topic may make you very uncomfortable and ruin the rest of your day. So if you think you can't stomach this post, don't read further. It's about that White Dress that women wear on That Bachelor Destruction Day.

End of Warning. Abort Reading Now.

Last night I watched a few minutes of a program on TV about a mother-daughter team who design and make wedding gowns. There was one particular part of the show where they dressed a girl up in a wedding gown and showed her how the gown was in fact a 3-in-1 piece; a classic wedding dress, an elegant evening gown and a lovely off-shoulder knee-length dress.

It transformed into each of the 3 different pieces simply by using velcro to attach and detach parts of the dress. Brilliant! The father of the bride-to-be was so awe-struck that he immediately wrote out a cheque despite his earlier protests in not wanting to buy her the gown.

Wedding gowns in Malaysia costs a fortune and that's why most women don't buy but rent them. In the West, I believe the dresses are a lot more affordable (if you look at dollar to dollar, without converting to RM). Plus, the designs there are much better too. They do get EVERYTHING, don't they?

From what I've observed, there aren't many simple gowns in the market here. I've seen some simple and classic ones but surprisingly they cost more than the elaborate ones. Is it true that less is more?

I have quite simple taste, and find these to be my dream dresses from David's Bridal:

Aren't they beautiful? =) *Dreamy*

I bet Ray hasn't dared venture reading past the warning paragraph at the beginning of this post. Poor fella, he's attending EE with me tomorrow. Almost sealing his fate. Wish him luck, will ya?

It's a VERY special day. Hence in the western culture, brides to be usually buy their own gown. It cost a bomb too but something which is considered as family heirloom in future (sometimes to be passed down to daughters or even granddaughters)

haha, funnily enough 2 guys read this post!

mike, the 1st dress is my fav amongst all too! =) you must intro me to your lacey wife for advise. hehe.

leonard, i like the idea of a wedding gown as a family heirloom. but what if the granddaughter doesn't like the dress but it's a heirloom??!! how? :P

Ooohhh, so you DO have a wedding coming up. :P Congratulations, hun. :)
Are you looking at buying or hiring? The wedding gown, I meant. (See how excited I get over things like these? :P)

It's weird though. I'm excited about the rings, the dress, the cakes etc, yet the idea of marriage freaks me out. Haha.

make that 3 guys; i kind of have a feminine side ;) lol!

i like the last one on the bottom. i like the singular red stripe that broadens all-around the gown. the first one is also nice, unlike the the one at the bottom, its slender and easier to move with. and the pattern is simplistic too along with a crimson-blood decoration as the waist to compliment with.

we men are stuck with eye-candy tux though lol! (why does women/girls have better clothing designs on the market? just asking heheh XP)

usually a good gown(heirloom) can be altered to suit the bride(next generation) to be wants to wear it on the big day. I know most will cherish the idea of a good wedding gown that was passed from generations.

btw I like the 3rd gown. plain & simple yet with nice cutting.

heirloom is great but knowing most ladies, they will not wear them quoting its too tight or out of fashion - chuckle

BTW, going away for pre CNY leave. ALl the best and Happy Chinese NEw Year

princess poo poo, i guess it's gonna be hired. it's hard one of these i like from the US without trying first. :(

pah, i would like to own one too but i gotta weigh sentiments vs practicality. and i think the latter wins.

jiro, you sure desbribe the dresses well! ;) and i agree, guys have more boring clothes. :P

evs, go renew your vows in a new dress! hehe. :P will link your travel blog.

nick, we endured it fine and it wasn't as painful as we imagined it. :) and no, no pics in gowns yet...too soon la.

leonard, it must be quite hard to maintain a heirloom piece. gotta watch that the colour doesn't change and that it doesn't smell like a few decades ago. hehe. :P

mike, hope you return with lots of prosperous food blogs after CNY!
