Tips on Bangkok

Anyone has been to Bangkok and can give us some tips? Where to go, what to eat, what to see, where to find a good tailor, which night spots are not to be missed, what time of day to avoid traffic (or it's just so bad it is unavoidable?), where's unsafe, how to go where....anything! :)

Been there June last year with hubby and had a great time. Kinda second honeymoon. Must-go places 1) Mambo cabaret to see "ah kua".They are so beautiful, felt so plain standing next to them. 2) Live shows/"Tiger" (Thai girl) show - must ask your tour guide to arrange cos they don't advertise. 3) MBK shopping centre - lots of food at food court. 4) Chatuchak weekend market - only open on weekends, lots of things to see and buy. 5) many more that I can't remember off-hand but will let you know if you still want to know. Enjoy your honeymoon - it'd definitely spice up your marriage!

Agree with dancing queen - Chatuchak weekend market is a must see. Be prepared to walk coz the market is as big as several football fields! Loads of nice stuff and cheap too. Great for buying souvenirs ;) There's a little stall by the escalator at MBK shopping centre that sells the cutest colorful fruitlike desserts - hope the lady's still there. Also must try. As for traffic, it's heavy most of the time (still jam at midnight!!)but try to avoid peak hours coz traffic's almost stand still. Look at maps, do a lot of walking and take a tuk tuk ride for the harrowing experience and don't forget their sky trains. Have lots of fun and loving. :D

Dont worry, its sooooo easy to go around in BKK. the train takes you practically everywhere. Be sure to get Nancy Chandlers Map of Bangkok (very handy, colourful, easy to read and tells you everything u need to knw abt BKK). JJ market (Chatuchak market) a must visit. MBK mall, a huge and cheap mall. Pratunam Market- you can get cheap work clothes. For tailoring, its practically everywhere, so no worries. You MUST get a massage!!! :) oh btw, Nancy's map of BKK, get it over there, they dont have it here (even MPH).
Pat Pong is not as "scary" as before. So its quite safe to walk around (night market there also interesting)!what else...if you're asked to see any dodgy shows...(or once ure hassled) just say "May Ai, Kun Kha" which mean, no thank you (for lady) for your other half "May Ai, Kun Khappp" :)

Anyway, have fun exploring Bangkok. Ask Ray to look up Yuin Hui & Hwee Kun who are staying over there.

dancing queen, wow you sure saw lots of exciting things on your 2nd honeymoon! and so lucky to get a 2nd one too. thanks for the places you named. will make a "to visit" list.

nick, you want real tiger? i bring you to zoo, ok? ;)

bkworm, will definitely go to chatuchak since we'll be there for the weekend. think we'll also need to budget extra time to get to the airport on our way home, seeing that traffic is so scary, huh?

evs, where to get the map while i'm there? airport, hotel, street? and thanks for the quick thai language lesson! what other phrases should we learn to get a little more mileage? :)

ben, read your experience there. seems like you did it all, boat ride, massage, shopping, eating, seeing friends...i think ray will be getting in touch with them too.

thanks everyone. you've been such great help! :D

Hey Eternity,

You can get the book in the bookstores in any of the shopping malls. Look out for MPH-like bookstores. Worse comes to worse, head to Siam Paragon (HUGE shopping mall) and there's an MPH in there. :) GOOD LUCK and HAVE LOOOOAAAAADS of fun shopping. Dont forget to drop by in Boots! ;)
