2 weddings and a dresscode headache

Wednesday, September 17, 2008

Two of my good friends from school are getting married next month. And they are just a week apart from each other. I've got a dresscode woe for one of them...at first I thought of just picking any of the dresses I've made and bought some months back, but when I saw on the invitation that the dresscode is "pink and lacey", my jaw dropped. I have nothing that's pink and lacey!

Since it's a good friend getting married, I would like to play the part and come in the theme she has set. Besides, I'm also one of her chimuis and helping her out a little bit during the reception. So I should at least abide by the dresscode, right?
But where am I gonna find something pink and lacey? Pink is quite easy to find but lacey? I could only imagine a lingerie... :P

27 Dresses

Thursday, March 27, 2008

I love weddings. I love everything and anything about a wedding. Whenever I attend a church wedding, I always get teary-eyed the moment the bride walks down the aisle. It doesn't matter that I don't know her, it just moves me to tears.

One of my favourite movies of all time is My Best Friend's Wedding. I've watched it more than a dozen times and I still enjoy it just as much the next time I pop the DVD into the player.

Now there's a new movie about weddings, about a girl who loves weddings so much that she's been a bridesmaid 27 times! Yes I'm talking about the movie 27 Dresses. I haven't watched any movies for months but I'm interested to go for this one. If not to the cineplex then maybe I'll buy the DVD. The latter might be a good idea so that I could watch it over and over, perhaps?

Reading the synopsis of this movie, it reminded me so much of something I've heard about someone. Just like the heroin of this movie, she has been a bridesmaid a few times, including being her younger sister's bridesmaid next, but never the bride in that pure white gown. Whilst the actress of 27 Dresses is in love with her boss who's planning to get married, I heard this person was involved with someone in her previous work place who is ALREADY married. Spells disaster, doesn't it? Doesn't she realise that this isn't going to put her in any wedding gown?!

On the contrary, I think 27 Dresses would be a feel-good movie. So I'm sure the heroin will have a happy ending that'll see her walking down the aisle, wearing that magical white gown and looking so beautiful. Ahh...that's how I like my movies to be.

Just married

Sunday, October 15, 2006

After months of preparing for our big day, it is now all over. The last week and a half being away from work and focusing only on the wedding and receptions have felt "honeymoon-like". I have 1 more day tomorrow to play "housewife" and then it's time to get my lazy butt back to work :(

Special thanks to Ben for taking wonderful pictures and Daddy Nick for your video clips.

It's been a month...

It feels like eternity since I last posted, but yet it's only been a month. So much has happened since.

1. The new job
I've been at my new job for 3 weeks. Things haven't gone full fledged so I haven't been stretched that far yet. I guess this is still "honeymoon" stage at work. But it is incredible what I've to learn and deliver as this is a totally new area for me. In fact, it is new to the company too. In a way I feel this is to my advantage albeit a little scary to bring something up from nothing.

I don't know if it's age or the fact that I've had to make new friends each time I changed job, but this time round I feel tired of having to start over in getting to know people. It took me a long time to shred that feeling and get off my butt to make an effort.

Just this week I joined the entire department to a team building trip to Cameron Highlands. In a way, this trip is somewhat a shortcut for me to know them a little better as some of us shared rooms and we all travelled the long journey together, laughing as we watched Mr. Bones on the bus and also feeling sick in the stomach during the winding path!

With this job, my blogging days will also be significantly reduced. You see, even the Gmail website is not accessible at the office, what more Blogger. After work, I don't get home as early anymore too. When no one's home, my poor cats had to endure darkness and late dinners. It also didn't help that the recent heavy showers caused hours of jams in the city.

2. The wedding
When we first started planning the wedding since beginning of the year, it felt like we had ample time and we took things leisurely. Through the months that went by, we still felt like the wedding is months to come. But when I woke up yesterday and realised it's September already, I had some butterflies in my stomach. Not because I'm nervous about getting hitched, but I wasn't sure if we have done enough and we've only 1 month left.

We only have our weekends to do stuff, so that means we have about 4 weekends to go. And it doesn't seem like enough. So maybe it is about time I started to freak out!Sure we've done quite a lot by now, booking whatever that needs to be booked and bought most of the things we need. But I can't help but feel something's still not in place. Perhaps this is a natural phase to go through?

Anyway...with all the new changes and challenges thus far, they've all happened in a good way. And it feels like I've grown up overnight with it all. It's like I'm done reading Volume 1 of a thick book and now moving on to Volume 2. To some extent, I can't wait to get started on that new volume to see what it's like! :)
